Tuition jumps as state support fails

Governing boards of Michigan 's state universities announced increased tuition rates, most by double-digit numbers. The state of Michigan has cut support for its public universities by more than $250 million over the past three years therefore leaving universities no other choice but to raise tuition, columnist Phil Power wrote. Wayne State is noted as raising its tuition 18.5 percent and Michigan State by 13.5 percent.
